Kingston Deaf Club Re-opened
On March 19, 2011, the Kingston Deaf Club (KDC) has officially re-opened its door at a new location to the Jamaican Deaf Community. For the past ten years, Calabar High School has been the host for KDC but the club was closed over two years ago.
The new location which is at the Jamaica Public Service's Sports Club at 23 Ruthven Road, Kingston 10 will allow KDC to run on three months probation to get a better understanding of how the club operates. If satisfied, the management of JPS will agree to allow KDC to operate on the compound for up to two years until KDC can find a permanent residence.
Mr. Kamar Groves who is the acting President expressed satisfaction with the new Location and believes that many Deaf persons will enjoy the club's new 'temporary' home. "I am looking forward to having more Deaf persons coming to the new location to have a good time" said Mr. Groves
The Kingston Deaf Club will serve to provide socialization, sporting activities, sign language classes and advocacy activities to the Deaf Community. The club which has been in existence over 30 years has been instrumental in keeping the Deaf Community intact. The club will operate on Saturdays from 2pm to 8:30pm.
