Thats some pretty cool stuff. All kind of possibilities.

Did Dan ever get back to doing anything with this project?

I broke one when experimenting by putting semi warm water in due to the uneven heat expansion. I went to break up the remainder to put in the in & it was very difficult. They are very tough. I managed to break it up with a piece of 3x2 but it was hard work.

I used 30 wt motor oil the other day and got mine up to 284 degrees in about 7 hours

Solar Hot Water heaters are available but to put those in a can heater I would have to spend 800 and take it apart.. China ships them in bulk but big numbers..

I watched "DESALINATION SEA SALT WATER WORT BOIL SOLAR STILL WATER" and was thinking this would be a good way to do it again. You will need a way to add the water at a rate which is best for the tubes and lenses or mirrors.
But, I think you can boil the 5 gal. with the tube in a day.
Something like this:
| 5gal | ---(liquid) ---> | tube | ---(gas)---> | 5gal |
Love the vids

One can make a rather small reflector using some wood scraps and ducting sheet metal, cover it with aluminum foil. I made a vacuum tube heater like Dan shows in one of his other videos and was able to get water to boil in about 15 minutes or so. Not too bad. I plan on posting a video soon.

There is an electric power plant in the USA that uses simaler system and synthitic oils that can handle high temps. They reach temps in excess of 1,200 degrees "F".
I can't find anywhere to buy those tubes.. help???

what's the point of boiling water with the sun? It's cool yeah but that's about it. I wanna see some real life applications that's gonna save me money. not science experiments. Everyone comments hmmm wonder what it could do. Let's see it warm my shower water or something.
