Dear Richard Trethewey of This Old House... My name is Aaron and I recently became a first-time home-owner of a beautiful 1957 home in Lincoln, Nebraska. We just had a drain leak repaired in the wall cavity that serves the sinks in the master bath and hall bath. Fortunately, this repair was covered by the home warranty that came with the house, but what was not covered was the fixtures that needed to be removed in order to access said wall cavity. Namely, the bathtub surround in our hall bathroom. I am a huge This Old House Hour fan and caught your recent episode where you and Kevin replaced a bathtub surround, so I figured, I can do this! So, I made a trip to my local hardware store and purchased everything I thought I would need to complete this task, but I ran into a problem... Once I tore out the drywall, I found my wall cavity full of other plumbing and I can't seem to figure out a way to make everything fit! And since there is no shutoff valves for the bathtub, I need to shut off the water to the entire house, and I just can't bring myself to doing that, knowing that my wife and three kids need water in other places of the house. HELP! HURRY!
