well then you can argue that the work of somebody else is using instruments or patches made by somebody else, chord structures made by somebody else, keys and notes used by somebody else....it can all get way out of hand. Nearly every record comes from an idea from something else before it

Most artists dont mind the whole sampling thing, its when the big fat cat lawyers got involved that saw it as a way to make a fast buck that it all got ruined. Its America's "any way to make money" attitude that how now turned being artistic into being a criminal

it's bullshit that you can't sample & rearrange it to make it different.. if it sounds nothing like the original melody then how is it not original? They say because you 'used' their record to get the sound. true, but if so, why don't all the keyboard & guitar companies musicians use to create their music charge them royalties? Without that guitar or piano they wouldn't have been able to make their music... same fuckin logic when you think about it..looping something up, that's a different story

concerts today are not about music, they are about 'shows' (spectacles), you don't go to a KiZZ concert for the great music, you won't find any, you don't go to a Brittney Spears concert for great singing, you won't find any, you don't go to a Kanye concert for great rapping or playing, you won't find any, but what you will find are wonderful sets, costumes, and lights

Shock G's analogy was completely wrong. A camera takes a photo of reality, not something created by another. An accurate analogy would be (if G laid off the pot he might understand) to have a photographer take a picture of a painting and then call that his work.

Sad that people don't get analogies these days.
