Baz McSherry : A Little Statue

The following is from the liner notes to Baz McSherry's debut album, "The Lookin' Drawer"...

THE YARN

Jonny Toman is a friend of mine, in fact we are related. We share the same Great-Great Grandfather and our fathers were practically brought up together.
I first heard Christy Moore sing in the summer of 94' and Everything changed, that was it! I spotted a guitar for sale in the local paper and rang the number, as fortune had it, the seller was Paddy Toman (Jonny's grandfather) so I took it as a sign, silvered the palm and began to shift the chords - I was on my way!
I reconnected with Jonny years later through the local folk scene, we started hanging out, catching gigs and exchanging influences.

This album was born at a gig, after hours at an Andy Irvine show; magic hung in the air and all possibilities seemed almost tangible, just like the music that night. The fact that we had little budget, no equipment, and only some knowledge of how to record seemed trivial. We turned Jonny's 3 bedroom into a 1 bedroom, commandeered two of the rooms and made them fit for purpose. The decision had been made, the Goal had been set, - the Lookin drawer was a "future history".
