What the SEPTA Strike really means

The mainstream press across Philadelphia is turning commuters against transit workers. Instead of practicing journalism and explaining to the public why transit workers have gone on strike, they have instead given a platform to one-side of the contract negotiations and helped the Mayor pit working people across the city against the drivers and engineers who get us to work everyday.

It's difficult for me to have sympathy for the transit union or their workers. I have to start a new job on Monday after being laid off for seven months, and now I have to walk to work, an hour each way. Everyone I know is either laid off or working without annual raises, benefit cuts, etc. SEPTA is not special. Willie Brown is a fat ugly greedy bastard.

One, the majority of Philadelphians with any sense realized it was the leadership of the union, not the union workers themselves who caused this. Two, The workers should have been able to strike, they deserve fair pay and working conditions too, agreed. Three, of COURSE you found unfair reporting practices with Fox 29...it's FOX.

Most people are very uneducated as to what the labor movement is,was and the fundamentals when they were established. Many people do support the fundamentals of the labor movement and will defend them if the union is being treated unjustly. That being said TWU is not one of those unions that is being treated unfairly, dealing with unsafe hazardous working conditions etc. This country in its entiry is pulling out of an economic crises.

They say that America's about "keeping up with the Joneses" whilst other benighted lands are about "tearing the Joneses down", well, looking at the anti-union sentiment here, Americans want to tear their neighbours down as surely as any other people in the world, in fact even more so. "I have to sacrifice, so everyone ELSE must sacrifice". "What, someone getting a cost of living increase? I'm not getting one so I hope they all GET FIRED!"
