Today I discuss a new reality show which just premiered in the UK, titled: Michel Roux's Service - which revolves around a newbie waitstaff! I ponder doing something similar.
I would love love love to see a reality show about servers, and your idea about switching the servers from two different worlds is a great idea. In my 6 years of serving experience I have worked in a hooters, a fridays (chain rest.), a breakfast pancake house, a closer to fine dining establishment, and a buffet (seafood $30 a person). It is wild to see how each type of rest. has their own set of difficulties and pros and cons.
I really love your vlogs so much! They always make me laugh. I'm glad you mentioned lifting trays, if only for a brief moment. A lot of people don't know how difficult it is to lift those trays, they are heavy! I'm 5'2" and I've worked in restaurants where the only way out of the kitchen was lifting that tray packed with entrees through a 6 inch slot between the ceiling and the top of the swinging door.
Thank you for all that you do, I am looking forward to your future posts!
The Greatest Comment I have ever heard in the restaurant business "Why dont you come behind the line and cook your own fucking food!!" Then the Chef said "You People have it so easy". My comment, of course, was "What do you mean You People" It is not my fault that my customers want to take a perfectly great entree that the Chef has cooked 2 thousand times, and change it completely to their likings! NOT MY FAULT! Ohh....the show I just thought of was for Chefs to do our jobs ( Us People)
Such a great idea...being a server myself, I've worked in a total of four restaurants in the last year, and they range from a family-owned small restaurant to a corporate sit-down burger chain. I have seen a wide range of customers, and I love every single one of your videos because I can relate to each situation. Please keep doing what you are doing...I sure hope people start realizing that stuff like $3 on $90 is worse than stiffing me.
I don't see a server reality show as a good thing. A bad tipper is just that. If they find out that the local 19 year old at Apple Bees is making $150 a night, when he/she only made $80 during their whole work day, it may drive the bad tippers tip even lower. Ignorance is bliss to some.
I don't think it would work. It would be too hard to recreate the hell we servers go through on a nightly basis in a fake reality show setting. it would have to be a hidden camera type show where the guests have no idea they are on film and the contestant servers could not let on or do anything that could get them fired in the real world. It would be awesome, but hard as hell to do right.
Battard. First one you've stumped me with. I love the pan of management/chef reaction. SO lifelike! ... The guy you were talking about in the waiter school video, first level Court of Master Sommeliers certified snob in a Michelin 5-star who couldn't handle a six table section to save his ass: I was the back waiter who had to neglect everyone else because in his world the server should never be seen touching the plates. *laughing* Now I'm off to Google "battard".........
