Defensive Tackles have the responsibility of closing the gaps on running plays. Im sorry but if you have all three gaps open you must have a pretty bad D line. The Center of the other team must always be engaged on running plays. I like to have a 2 gap DT that needs 2 OL to block him so that makes it easier on the Mike backer to really make some plays and hit people. Look at the Ravens Ray Lewis has a great bunch in front of him that only contributes to his success.
