  • He wrote it at age 19 exactly. In my opinion, one of the greatest musical minds (if not the greatest) ever. His mind was unique from any other musical master. He's right up there with the very best.

  • it was probably written before he was 19, which is even more impressive!(:

  • gergiev reminds me of smeagol/gollum in this piece.

  • I love this movement. It's both jazzy and witty at the same time.

  • Awful performance of a beautiful piece.

  • Amazing the director in 0:47

  • actually the pianist wasn't that bad...one missed note, I think...I was watching with the full score, cause I HAVE TO LEARN IT :))))

  • @joebassplayer Nope!

  • always thought that up till 0:48 / the first motive, sounds like Bartok's music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste... am I alone?!

  • our marching band used this movement for our show....its awesome(:

According to some books I've read, he began composition at 16, and of course completed it at 19. How much was written at which age and at whether he conceived of what he was writing as a symphony from the beginning or was just sketching out some ideas for another composition at first, I have no clue.
