  • Gah, i forgot to even ask the question i started that comment for anyway -_-. Anyway, are you using a diffusion pump for this?

  • @triggerhappy77707 Those spots are indeed x-rays. I am using a diffusion pump on this setup, a turbo pump could also be used (and would arguably be ideal). All but the absolute best mechanical pumps in new condition are not sufficient to pump down a fusor, and even a good mechanical one would require a supremely clean chamber since it has almost no pumping speed so low in pressure.

  • @CaptainFredrik, yes it is. The radiation is so minimal it poses no biological threat from a few feet away for short duty cycles.

  • @IdRatherBeCubing so i want to build a fusor, my friends father has a phd. in nuclear physics and warned my friend and I about the neutron radiation that is being emitted from these fusors, so i was wondering if you could let me know what your thought is about it, and if you did anything to protect yourself from it.

  • @danecooktz I have guarded from x-rays, but I have no radiation shielding for neutrons. The flux is extremely minimal given the on-times and the distance you stand from the device (only several feet, but the total isotropic emission is only on the order of 1-2 million neutrons/second). There is virtually zero risk assuming you don't run it 24/7 two feet from your bed.

  • can you with this generator generate something (energy such as electricity, heat, motion)?

  • Very nice :-D. Hehe, i can tell there are X-rays about as i can see some of the CCD's pixels being excited. I would like to make a fusor, however i don't know much about them. I know plenty about X-rays, even though it is completely different :-P

  • What was the X-ray emission from your inner grid?

  • Is that safe to do home?

  • Cool!
