First class remix and photo + video work, following the idea of the song.
From "Le Fantome", watch his wonderful website dedicated to Sheila's fame :
http://tendersilenceofthenight.ifrance.com/acceuil.htm

It is about mannequins (models) and cover girls, while Sheila herself has been one of the most photographed person in modern days !
Hence the idea.

The remix is good tasted too, with additions as well. Thanks to "Muskys".
It ends with moving pictures in a good spirit too... They're extract from the mid 80's video clip "Pour te retrouver".
It all makes sense.

A dream dancer from her earliest days, and an ardent amateur singer in her childhood and early teens too, Annie Chancel (i.e. "Sheila") was a singing star from the age of 16/17 until... now. During nearly all of her 'fame' years, for more than twenty years, she remained forbidden to... put on a true stage act, music-hall or a tour or live shows ... uniquely so.
(They thought that "Television will replace stage acts very soon"... such was the mood in the early 60's onwards. Sales figures and cash income did incline to think this way...)
Only Tv shows, eventually through long and demanding live performances there (4 songs in a row sometimes), before large halls and the watching millions, or at radios, many over-worked lip-sing 'dancing sceneries' too, but that's all...

So, she had a lot time for poses, or any kind of "promos", always photographed...

There endlessly emerges nowadays hundreds if not thousands of 'unseen' pictures of her, all the time.

She even was used as an actual fashion mannequin in magazines, intensely, always to 'cross advertise' her name as a popular singer.

Weekly appearances in any kind of magazines too (My swimming pool for 'swimming pool magazine', My kitchen for 'Kitchen magazine', My garden for... My dogs... My husband..)
Local press events too.
Christening a submarine here, milking a baby lion there, opening a major fun fair she sponsored in Paris, a new riviera port in St Raphael, while she's also most officially Marraine (i.e. 'sponsor') of New-York's J.F.Kennedy Airport... Eventually singing the theme even.
At the time of this present song, she really was a 'Miss Concorde', an intensive user too...

The idea of her producer Carrère from the onset was to flood the country with the name SHEILA, + pictures, + headline-grabbing features of any kind from complicities in all sorts of press, including the gutter specie... in order to sell those everywhere-to-be-heard records.
1962 onwards...

A favoured prey for the paparazzi, too.

Plus all the fan mags, so intensive in those years, let alone dedicated posters on a weekly basis or so : she was photographed probably daily.
A lot 'normal' photo-sessions as well, especially with her favourite accomplice Jean-Marie Perrier. Throughout so many years, especially her 'classic' 1962-1989 colossal era.

She stopped for 10 yrs afterwards, 'slightly tired'... then returned, mainly to tour France endlessly and at last meet her public in depth, on many live stages. Including cheap formulas in order to get invited on rather modest communal budgets, as the 'gift of the year' free concert : she simply loves it.
She will never have enough of what she was so sorely deprived, from 1964 until 1985...

The song is an extract of the 1980 "King of the World" album, produced from A to Z by the mythical 'master of groove' pair Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the legendary CHIC New-York wonder boys.
It includes her interstellar hit "Spacer".

The audio here is a remix + add-ons based on the must-have 2006 Universal luxury re-issue of this album, with extras (partial mixes & alternative takes etc.), and real speed version (at last !!!) of the song "King of the World" (a forerunner of M.Jackson's "Beat it", mixing real rocking electric guitars and true Black R'nB groove, the intimate Black and White project of Chic, here featuring that powerfully throated Euro singing girl...), a thick leaflet plus a hand sketch of la Grande Matoue herself, laid during the Powerhouse sessions, lying the idea of the visuals for Spacer...

This video clip from professionals and true fans, is a gem.

    Another day in the eighties.

While they were counter-culture they were the best musicians in the world.

then came recognition, and with that the end.

  • you can hear Bernard Edwards speaking in the studio in the beginning of the video
