Amazing mirage appeared on Thursday at dusk at the Tunxi section of the Xin'an River in Huangshan City, east China's Anhui Province, when continuous pouring rain had just stopped.

In the thin mist above the river were spectacular images of mountains, buildings and trees, which seemed to be floating on the river.

The phenomenon began at about 17:00 p.m. local time, attracting a large number of people, who paused to watch the ethereal scene.

"It's really amazing. It looks like a scene in the movie, in a fairyland," a local said.

Similar sights are often seen lately, only they were not as special as this one, local residents say.

  • I've heard is a misunderstood of translation, and they're amazed because of the amount of fog that makes the buildings and trees look like their floating. Not that those buildings aren't there.

  • Whatever this is, I know for 100% FACT this is not a fucking mirage. I cannot explain what it is, but mirages cannot possibly create an image. It is beyond what a superior, or even Fata Morgana mirage can do. It is spooky but spectacular.

  • These building ARE there, so why call it a mirage?

  • THe city buildings are in the far distance behind the trees while the fog covers the base line that looks like a floating city island sitting on top of the water creating an illusion

  • Sooo, this is actually all a mistranslation. the buildings ARE actually there. it was the 2011 floods. get your facts right.
