Hello RedTango!
Most probably after Haunted Spooks; there he got his notorius hand injury after smoking a cigarette and lighting the acme bomb, that exploded... according to an urban legend he never smoked again after that!

It is before 1919 because he still got his whole right hand, after the accident with the prop-bomb in '19 he lost two fingers and used a glove to hide it which can be easily seen
