In anticipation for Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, being released for XBLA and PSN Summer 2012, I thought I'd revisit one of my favourite current gen fighters in Virtua Fighter 5. This video includes the intro movie as well as some promo movies for the game in addition to some of my online matches against players from around the world. In those matches I play as my favourite character Kage.

Virtua Fighter 5 is quite a simple fighter for beginners to get into yet offers real depth for those seeking to truly master the game's techniques on offer. The Final Showdown revision of Virtua Fighter 5 will offer 19 playable characters, new character animations, new costumes and an overhaul of Virtua Fighter 5's gameplay mechanics and balance.

HaHa... thanks Kumao ;-) I love Virtua Fighter but I'm not that great of a player to be honest. I really hope Sega release a retail version of Final Showdown too. Thanks as ever bud ;-)

  • nice skills grasshopper;) if i ever get round to online playing i'll be sure to keep clear of anyone being kage!! ha

  • @minks36

Haha ;-) Thanks bud. Of course what you don't get to see are the numerous thrashings I've also received but then it's always best to put your best foot forward eh? ;-) Thanks as ever mate ;-)

I reckon you should pick it up now and get some practise in for Final Showdown next summer ;-) The 360 game is the superior home version as it has online play and refinements over the PS3 title. Plus it should be dirt cheap nowadays. It's such a great fighter where genuine skill and tactics almost always wins out over button bashing. Thanks for watching mate ;-)

I'm not sure how big the online community is for VF5 nowadays. When I played online, some years ago, it was quite active and pretty easy to find matches. I'd imagine that there would still be people playing online particularly in Japan where the series has always being very popular. With Final Showdown due in the summer of next year though I would expect there to be a strong and active community playing online once again.

  • This Video Game Came Out Four Years Ago. Does Anyone Still Plays This Online?

  • @strafefox Thanks man ;-) Not sure about Ulala officially appearing in the game but it should be possible to customise VF characters to look like other characters such as Ulala. Apparently Final Showdown will have a lot of costume and character customisation. Also looking forward to Soul Calibur 5 too as well as Dead or Alive 5. 2012's gonna be a great year for beat-em-up fans ;-)

  • Great video! Really looking forward to the new VF5 together with the new Soul Calibur. Hopefully Sega keeps the vf series alive. Btw: is final showdown the one where you can play as Ulala from space channel 5?

  • @TGApuleius

Hey man ;-) I could hold my own most of the time online but then I'd come up against a true expert and have my arse handed to me. Was still a great game to play online though, kept me coming back. Its the sort of fighter where genuine skill seems to win out every time. Looking forward to Final Showdown next summer.
