"Singing the Blues" is a popular song. It was written by Melvin Endsley and was published in 1956.

The best-known recording of the song, released in October 1956 by Guy Mitchell, spent 9 weeks at #1 on the Billboard chart from December 8, 1956 - February 2, 1957, despite competition from rival versions by Tommy Steele and Marty Robbins. Tommy Steele's version also made no. 1 in the UK Singles Chart for one week on 11 January 1957.

Was not 'stolen'. Was given. If anything Jazz and the Blues are a beautiful combination of 2 very different cultures. Big Bands were already in the U.S. which influenced that part of jazz and the rhythms were a mix between old African American folk songs (hollar songs) and songs that whites would make them sing. Look up Buzzard Lope if you want something closer to what as you call "Black Folk" brought over. Jazz is an awesome mix of cultures that neither would have invented without the other.

To all Spartanburg Vikings alumni, Clemson Tigers fans, and Kansas City Chiefs, hardcore Los Angeles Rams fans, and Chicago Bears fans out there: This was the #1 song in the USA when Steve Fuller came into the world (January 5, 1957).

God! Black singers recorded hit songs from white composers; white singers recorded hit songs from black composers. Black artists recorded fox-trots; white artists recorded soul music. Music hasn't master. Music is in the air. We all are brothers and sisters... Children of God. Let's forget this thing of colours... (from Brazil)

On this day in 1957 {January 11th} Tommy Steele's "Singing The Blues" reached #1 {for 1 week} on the United Kingdom's Singles chart...

The record that preceded and then succeeded it at the #1 position was Guy Mitchell's version of the same song...

Tommy Steele's version never charted in the U.S.A.; but Guy Mitchell peaked at #1 {for 9 weeks} on Billboard's Best Sellers chart...

R.I.P. Mr. Mitchell {1927 - 1999} and Mr. Steele turned 76 years old this past December 17th...
