Speaker Pelosi's Scheme to Pass Health Care: Misguided, Arrogant & Fundamentally Wrong

Remarks as prepared for delivery:

Madam Speaker, Article 1, Section 7 of the Constitution says that in order for a "Bill" to "become a Law," it "shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate."

Yet, yesterday Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed the so called Slaughter Rule, which would merely "deem" that the House has passed the Senate health-care bill and then send it to President Obama to sign anyway without a direct, recorded vote.

This scheme is misguided, arrogant and fundamentally wrong.

The Speaker reportedly added: "Nobody wants to vote for the Senate bill." Given the facts that among other things the $1 trillion bill is marred with special deals, mandates, tax hikes and Medicare cuts It is no wonder they dont want to vote for it.

Considering the wide-ranging affects this trillion dollar effort to change health care will have, the American people deserve a clear up or down vote on this bill.

So let me get this straight, the federal government is now telling me i HAVE to get health insurance or be fined $750-$2000?! That's not only UNCONSTITUTIONAL, but Bullshit as well

Mr. Bilirakis, I would just like to say that having went to school with you back in the 80's and seeing what your father did for our country, I am so proud of you and proud to say that I know you personally, for speaking up and telling the truth about what dirty tricks our elected officials are taking to get this bill passed. Thank you, Congressman Bilirakis, for standing on the side of the American People, who with their phone calls, e-mails, town-hall mtgs. have desparately tried to stop this socialized health bill. At least we know that the Republicans in Congress are listening to us! The Democrats have lost all credibility & honor.

Dictator Nancy Pelosi, if she cannot get the votes to pass this monstrosity of a bill, will use that "Slaughter Rule", an UNCONSTITUTIONAL way to pass this bill. The only times that the "deem & pass" method has been used, was when there was a wide margin of votes to pass a bill. It's unconstitutional to use "deem & pass" in lieu of having the necessary votes to pass a bill.

Pelosi, Slaughter, Obama-- they should all be impeached for even attempting this!
