Born in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France in 1969, Helene Grimaud describes herself as an agitated and unpredictable child who found her salvation in music. At 13 she was the youngest student at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris and made her first recording, a Rachmaninov sonata, when she was only 15. Now on her latest album, "Resonances," Grimaud takes on the challenge of playing Liszt's Sonata in B minor, what she calls "a monumental quest." In New York, at Steinway Hall, Grimaud performed this excerpt for "Quick Hits."
@Rudel23 Very superficial, sorry. I was really surprised that Helene is really so good on this greatest piece of art ever composed. Of course my favorit is Gilels' Moscow life performance. Argerich is sometimes highly compromising power and accuracy a lot for incredible speed.

@Rudel23 I dunno, I think she could do it if she put her mind to it.

She' s beautiful, gifted, a true artist, excellent pianist, no question about this. But she doesn't have the technique, l"aisance", the skills for playing Liszt. Great pianist, but she'll never be a "Lisztian pianist". As well as Cziffra cannot play Mozart, she shouldn't play Liszt. I ADORE her, burt this perfomance is quite normal, almost disappointing. Please remember what we heard in this Sonata by Argerich or Cziffra ( the greatest and unforgettable Lisztian pianist of all time).
