@reedcostume as much as i understand the grammar thing, ive been able to write 25 page long stories for school without ever using 'he' 'she' or 'it'. its pretty damn easy to write genderlessley

Smithers is not as homophobic as the article makes it seem. Smithers is an arts community. I enjoy the company of Shauna in my english class and would definitely consider her my friend. But I did not however enjoy my hometown being lambasted. Homophobia is everywhere. It's not exclusively in Smithers. There are so many people in Smithers that support homosexuality. Myself included. The article made Smithers seem like it was the breeding ground for hate. Not cool.

I think the newspaper didn't want wrong grammer or something, and didn't thought about how people would react to that. I also feel kinda insulted, since people have every right to be called 'they' if they want to. I have the feeling that newpaper aint as thought through as people thought?

Once again, I do really like Shauna and I understand the reasoning for the article and the issue. I hope things will get better but my hometown isn't that bad...

@lettersandpackages i completely understand, and believe me, i didnt believe it could be THAT extremely homophobic, but coming from a place where practically everyone was gay (im paraphrasing, but langely fine arts school is probably 90% gay) its a pretty drastic change... though i love the attention brought to the article, smithers is barely even a dot on the homophobia scales of BC. btw thanks so much for commenting, its much appreciated!
