Modern industrial society has lost touch with the real value of what it produces. Our wasteful consumption and our disposable attitude toward so much of what we produce and use is going to hurt our children. In spite of the fact that most parents would never eat first and feed their kids what is left over, when it comes to our use of natural resources we are doing just that. As the planet's population grows and we reach the peak of our oil production capacity along with many other minerals and materials we are robbing our children. We have eaten the best parts of the chicken and we are leaving them with the bone.

When you stop and really think about it, it is unsettling. This video invites you to re-think what you consider to be junk. It invites you to let go of the "What will the neighbors think" mindset and re-look at what you use and see if you can give it a second life. http://www.environmentalcitizen.net

  • The wood you get from pallet is not perfectly good wood, its hardly wood at all. Most pallets I've seen, and I've seen many because all the 100,000 products my company sends out every month goes on pallets, is the crap wood that you can't really do anything with. It's not water resistant, is usually filled with knots, torn screws, and the planks are hardly what I call straight or even slightly useful. Just because its free and available does not mean it makes sense to repurpose.

  • @mnm1067 thanks for watching. The message of the video is not about the wood perse but about the principle of repurposing. As it happens the pallet wood i came across was oak and quite sturdy. :)

  • Change the title to the "whys" of repurposing... I learned nothing about composting or bins.

  • Less preaching, more telling us about building a compost bin.

  • "consumptive" that is...missed my M

  • He hit the nail on the head, pun intended! People live this gross consuptive life because they are worried what the folks next door would think if the bought used, recycled or reclaimed as a lifestyle.

  • Totally unrelated to the video, I know.. but your mannerisms are very much like the actor Vincent D'onofrio's (law and order)

  • I feel you on this vid. it gets so frustrating sometimes when ppl would rather buy than reuse something...I am soo thrilled that I am not the only one who has a voice! Keep on Keeping on! love the video!

  • You're ahead of your time. What you're doing is to be commended, and it's a lost art. School wood shops and sewing labs now contain computers.

  • really awesome video
