For woodturners, multi-axis turning offers a means to go beyond just ROUND. And one of the things multi-axis turning opens up is to play with ARCS - intersecting arcs - and - TWISTS (up to a quarter turn twist)
BUT - multi-axis turning is a bit trickier to connect CAUSE to EFFECT and as a result, OUTCOMES can be difficult to predict. What you WANTED and what you ACTUALLY turn can be quite different.
Well - lucky for us, Barbara Dill has been working on bringing a bit of Order To Multi-Axis Turning's CHAOS. And even luckier for us, she's written to very helpful papers on both the concepts behind multi-axis turning, as well as HOW TO, been demonstrating her approach - AND recently done a very good DVD on the subject.
Her two "papers" on Multi-Axis Turning can be downloaded from her website - for FREE at
www.barbaradill.com
After you've checked out here multi-axis Gallery, you might want to consider ordering her DVD. Text, charts, tables and illustrations are great - but seeing things IN ACTION is even better. And some of the camera angles can show you how a spindle gouge is used well in the hands of someone who really knows how to use it.
As always, comments, suggestions, constructive criticism are always welcomed.
ps I have no monetary connection, nor will reap any benefit other than the satisfacton of turning people on to good stuff, by suggesting the purchase of Barbara's DVD.
Interesting shapes... way beyond round!
