the actor who played Stalin made one fatal error. Communists did not believe in God, so at the end when he said Godspeed he should have said something else equally encouraging like good luck. but then again, it is the writers' fault for not seeing it first

Which he then promptly shut down or stuffed full of informants after the war. Yes, Stalin was trained to be a priest, but he made a point of communicating that it was a lower evolutionary form "I believe in one thing only, the power of human will." To top that off, he also removed every right which any church believes are foundational i.e. right to property, freedom of speech etc. I hope that is conclusive enough to convince you that he barley tolerated churches, but mostly hated them.

Indeed, if Hitler had not been so stupid as to attack Russia, we would all be speaking German now.... Oh, and the Jews, Gypsies, Asians and Africans would be extinct.... Unfortunately, even though the Soviets reduced the death toll of WWII to 55m (million), Stalin caused the death of over 40m Lenin ~20m and in their footsteps Mao, with a whopping 120m... Please tell me then which is greater evil?
