@EricsEveryNewDay Wait... what is not true exactly? Are you saying that's not the primary use/effect of jump cuts, or that they DON'T, in fact, compress time? Because it seems pretty obvious that they do sometimes compress time, and that in some scenes that could be the more the primary intended effect than disorientation.

Would you still call it a jump shot if it's meant to convey the passage of time? An unmoving camera films a room. The main character reads in a chair, checks watch. The main character lounges on the couch. The main character surfs television. You get the idea.
