Any delivery that occurs outside of a sanitary setting/facility without the proper resources to deliver a baby decreases the chances of survival. And yes, you could argue that women have been doing this for years without any sort of medical assistance, but the aforementioned statement is just a proven fact. The mother could have experienced hypofersusion and this call could have gone downhill easily and quickly. That's why it's an emergency. ;-)
