Over 20 police officers tried to block us from entering the parade, they told us that they reason they were doing this was because the name of Jesus offends people. We were welcome to march with the name of our organization "Street Church" but not with the name of Jesus. The officers blocked us with cars, almost running over some of the children in strollers, we were verbally threatened and they blocked our camera so that we couldn't film what they were doing to us. In the end we finally marched in the parade, behind us 5 police cars followed with flashing lights and sirens blairing, cop motorcycles in front and on either side of us as well as police officers on foot. It was as if we were the queen or someone very important entering the parade, and of course we are ambasadors for Christ, we joyfully marched as we lifted up His great name as 400,000 people watched.
I'm all for promoting the name of our Lord and Saviour; however, there are proper channels in order to enter a parade acceptably. City bi-laws, rules and regulations are there to help us enjoy the freedom they provide. I'll have stand-by Rom. 13:1-5 for this statement. Thank you, bless ya'll. Oh yes, remember, the name of Christ is an aroma to some, but a stench to others. Be wise brothers!
Sincerely in the name of Jesus Christ,
Walter B. Shepherd
