GPU is artifacting it's either going bad or something is wrong with the software. It would not do this due to overheating.

This happens to my ps3, it shows these green, purplish lights but it doesnt go on for that long. It just freezes. Can someone help ?

Not always.
The people at the game shops use equipment that the manufacturer has supplied, including the display kiosks.
Blame Sony for the kiosk that's used here, not the game store that is required to use it no matter what the staff thinks.

Anyone who has ever been in a gaming store has seen the "cases" the consoles are kept in. ps3's without plenty of fresh air will overheat, unlike xbox360s which never overheat, they melt

Are you retarded? What makes you think that the flashing screen colors are because of a overheating PS3 console? Even if it is because of overheating have you seen how the consoles in the stores are setup in a tiny case cramped with very little ventilation the systems are on for hours after hours days after days constant. in your home unless your a dumbass your system will not over heat no matter what unless youve got it cramped in a tiny space not allowing it to get ventilation.
