Dermatomyositis is one of a group of muscle diseases known as the inflammatory myopathies, which are characterized by chronic muscle inflammation accompanied by muscle weakness. Dermatomyositis' cardinal symptom is a skin rash that precedes, accompanies, or follows progressive muscle weakness. Dermatomyositis may be associated with collagen-vascular or autoimmune diseases, such as lupus. There is no cure for dermatomyositis, but the symptoms can be treated. Options include medication, physical therapy, exercise, heat therapy (including microwave and ultrasound), orthotics and assistive devices, and rest.
Praying for you and that you continue to have strength to battle this disease. My husband was just diagnosed with DM and we are in shock mode and trying to learn more about this disease. I am scared of what is to come.

@dewieee123 Please don't be. With all the different treatments available today. It's manageable at most. The last resort is IVIG. This is supposed to be the wonder treatment that helps remission. I mean it's all about listening to your body. The steroid side really sucks. High doses bring mad mood swings. My prayers go out to you and your husband. Just keep checking back. I have another drs appt. coming up. By the way with DM you have to watch for cancers. There is an underlying disease.
