I'm sorry, sometimes I laugh at Americans. This is one of those times. Huge battles over prayers in schools, over having a holiday aimed at prayer? Well, why do people so badly need it? Why do others really care if the government caves into such silly requests based on a long standing tradition? Perhaps the atheists have a point, making this a "law" is just stupid. But while its a law, why not use the holiday constructively? Many people have given blood on the day. Religious people have spread misinformation about vaccines and condoms. One can rally around an issue to raise awareness. Or ... what the heck, life is short, have a party? Or blaspheme if you choose. Its a state sponsored holiday, or it might be. I've lost track about whether or not its still on. April 22, 2010, the government seemed to have raised an appeal of some sort. What are YOU going to do?
@OldeVampyr I agree but my agreement isn't totally objective; i.e., I'd really have to understand both systems better. My family members certainly have their share of doctor complaints. ;)

@truevoiceofsanity Removing the fear of losing everything because the cost of healthcare means everything!

@OldeVampyr Self interest and job security. Naturally, they argue "quality control". I've not followed the matter more recently; we may in fact have increased the number of foreign doctors we admit. In terms of medical school, our government pays some of it and some rule changes have altered the way that works. Again, I don't know the details there. ;). Our system definitely isn't perfect. Quality of care is said to be comparable to US tho and we don't go broke for getting sick. ;).

@truevoiceofsanity Why would they want to keep the quotas on medical students low and foreign doctors low?

@OldeVampyr I don't think said US citizens would have a measurable impact. ;). Said fraud may be a problem but ... Our main problem is a shortage of doctors and that is caused by a) Canadian doctors going across the border for higher salaries b) the doctor's guild aka Canadian Medical Association keeping the quotas on medical students and foreign doctors low.

@truevoiceofsanity How much are the waiting times due to US citizens sneaking in and using the system?
I would find the creationists more humorous if they were not swaying politics and impeding medical advancements. Hell, they are even against a chlamydia vaccine. How many otherwise intelligent people might have become doctors and scientists but were raised to believe science to be evil?
But I do enjoy FSTDT for a laugh.

@OldeVampyr I find creationists quite humorous. Sometimes, when I need a good laugh, I'll listen to some of their videos here on youtube. It opens one's mind to a new point of view but in reality, its just listening to silly "logic". What makes them frustrating is only our need to be "right" and to convince others of our rightness.
Here in canada health care isn't as ideal as I thought too. We have problems as well. Wiating times are really bad here and an under supply of doctors.

@truevoiceofsanity lol, With the rising cost of health care down here, laughter is about the only medicine we can afford anymore. But the Rethuglicans and the Creatards even make THAT difficult.

@OldeVampyr yes. ;).

You can laugh because you don't have to live in the middle of it.
