Folk music and civil-rights icon Pete Seeger brought his brand of straight-talking this-banjo-kills-fascists* political activism to "The Johnny Cash Show" on March 4, 1970. It's clear from this clip that Cash is the student and Seeger is the master as he and Cash rip through the Grand-Ole-Opry-friendly classic American singalong folk tune "Worried Man Blues."

* This has been edited by Mikerickson01 into a much better description: Pete Seeger's banjo surrounds hate and forces it to surrender.

  • If I may offer a correction.

That banjo does not kill fascists, as claimed in the original posting info.

    Woodie Guthrie's guitar killed fascists.

Pete Seeger's banjo surrounds hate and forces it to surrender.

  • @mikerickson01 Your correction is accepted and will be integrated into the clip description. Good work!

  • saw this back in august...been trying to find it awhile now

  • @issaquah94965 I LOVE JOHNNY CASE

  • The Patriot and the Revolutionary, and they were friends. A lesson for the rest of us, perhaps?

  • Great singer, who am i kidding, theyre both great singers. Shame that Pete Seegers songs are so short though

  • chills.

  • How long did Johnny Cash have his own show?

  • TRUE American heroes

  • I love it when one master shows such respect for another.

  • Men like Johnny Case and Pete Seeger are story tellers. We should take more time to listen to them.

  • Who says leftists don't hate?

  • This is great, the DVD cuts out a quarter of Worried Man Blues, and you lose the story about the judge, this is much better! Bloody cost and space saving DVD company! I got the DVD when it came out in 06 or 07, and seeing this performance on it was one of the reasons I started performing myself, and every now and then I play Worried Man Blues myself! Seeger - It takes a genius to make something simple, too much music is over produced now.
