Sailing to Byzantium, Easter 1916, John Swifts epitaph. Yeah Sean O'Casey might be identified with the fenians and freedom more but Ireland is a great country and why is it recognised at all? Because of the likes of Oscar Wilde, Shaw, and Yeats. The writers nostalgic Americanised view of Ireland and Sean O'Casey can go to hell like Keating that fag(you won't know him). I feel better now.
Bit tedious and dull as regards subject matter. Nothing compared to yeats (as seen here). Besides no-one gives a fuck about the poor en masse unless they are one of them. It is the intelligentsia who are the jewel of a country and bloodshed the instigator of change. Padraig Pearse had the right idea.
John Lynch, is such an underrated actor, look at him In The Name Of The Father, the fact he acting next to Daniel-Day Lewis doesn't do him any favours.
He's the only positive thing in the George Best bio pic as well.
I love Sean O'Casey. His play the plough and the stars looks outside the nationalistic romantic dream for Ireland and focus's on the domestic life in which the poor must endure and shows that even though ireland may win itd freedom, the poverty stricken people will still stay poor and ineffected
Freedom from oppressive rule is important. What would you know about it? When your very own people are treated as second class people, then of course - self determination is the most important thing in life.
He coulda sold the play for abita money BUT NOOOOOO he let the ducks eat it :( bloody Irish people
