After some Twitter convo with @mojosd I decided to record some comparisons of audio quality using a regular bluetooth headset as an external mic for the Nokia N95. As you can see, it provides some relative advantage when recording in a very loud environment (particularly when streaming over Qik or Flixwagon when the audio data rate is low already). In a quiet environment, your sound goes from "natural" to "telephone" if you opt for the external BT mic. In that case, the only reason to use BT would be to record people quite far from the N95.

  • oh i see.. oh and btw, how far away from the phone can i go with that bluetooth headset?

  • Not sure. Probably 15, 20, maybe even 30 feet if there are no obstacles. I've gone about 10 feet so far.

  • Excellent question! I should've put this in the video description. I exported the video in .3gp format to better simulate the kind of low-res quality you'd get in live-streaming applications like Qik or Flixwagon.

  • and i mean not using the phone itself for the video. i've seen bluetooth being used as an external microphone with other cameras and i want to know how to do that.

  • this may sound like a very dumb question lol but how do you do this? [using the bluetooth as an external microphone, syncing with video]

  • I have a bluetooth headset & I use it for online gaming for PC however mic Iis great but the built in speaker is horrible.

Is there anyway to have the sound come through my computer speakers but still use the mic part?

    Thanks

  • sir is that compatible for my Nokia N95 8GB?

  • Hi ShelbinatorTV,

Great video, love it...I actually down graded back to the N95 from the N85, as far as I know the new models don't allow this feature....go figure!

Could you please let me know what type of Bluetooth headset ur using?

I am scouting for one to use and want to find the best type that eliminates external noises.

I went through all the hassle of using a lapel mic but find that going bluetooth is just too easy...especially when I am doing interviews on the fly...

    Thanks bud :)

  • howcome the video quality of this n95 video is bad compared to your other video
