Tower Block Dreams On every council estate in every town there is a vibrant underground music scene. It's fuelled by pirate radio stations and dreams of trying to escape the grime, rapping to beats made on anything from Coke cans to computers. Crime is the only way some can pay to keep their hopes alive, but it can also shatter dreams. Towerblock Dreams takes an honest look at modern inner city life, through the stories of the young musicians trying to make better lives for themselves. Some are successful and find fame and fortune, but for most it remains a distant fantasy. This is a world where 9-5 really is a foreign language and the motto "Get rich or die trying" rolls off many tongues. Mc'ing, club culture, pirate radio and music generally play a big part in everyday life, as do drugs and robbery which are seen as a means of getting out of the ghetto. And for the unlucky, it inevitably leads to prison.

Episode Ghetto On Sea

Southend in Essex may be a town best known as a holiday destination, but behind the seafront there's another side to the town. "There's a big, big drugs scene", says Gambit, an aspiring rapper who lives there; and he should know. "If you're around drugs and you're around people who are making money without going to work, as if you're going to want to go to work!" The other main character in the film nicknamed 'Killer' runs the biggest pirate radio station in the town. "If I wasn't doing radio I'd probably be in jail now", Killer says. Gambit's hoping that his rapping career will give him an alternative lifestyle that doesn't revolve around the drugs scene, and court appearances. He wants a more stable life, away from all the arguments that go with an illegal business. Killer also has his run-ins with the law. He has to go to court for driving without a licence and uninsured, but isn't fazed when the judge bans him from driving. "Thirty seconds later, behind the wheel I get", he says driving away from the court. Will Killer's pirate station remain the top station in Southend? Will Gambit's rap career take off and free him from a life revolved around drugs? The film follows both stories as they pursue their passions for music.

  • Fucking hell all the middle class suburbans on here are making me fuckin gag. Yeah you can insult them but if you were worth anything you would look at what they're lives have been and be impressed by the fact that they are trying to turn to music. Its alright for you with Mummy and Daddy paving the way to a cushy fucking job, try having to work for every single little thing you get from an early age then come back and chat your shit.
