600,000 voices call for an Arms Trade Treaty

On 3rd July 2012 the Control Arms campaign handed over a global petition to the United Nation's Secretary General Ban Ki-moon calling for a strong Arms Trade Treaty.

Haha. I wrote that comment quite a while ago. Truth is that I wouldnt die over anything stupid like that... but it would be a shame if Americans allowed it to happen so easily.

I dont think the will be successful. Disarming the population will only hurt the law abiding people. The criminals wont turn in any weapons.

I think that yourself and most of the commenters here have unfortunately misunderstood the goals of this treaty.

In response to the concerns from the U.S. and others, it was agreed that the Treaty would _not_ impose any regulations on the domestic arms trade (e.g., within the U.S.); it is entirely a measure to attempt to control the trade of arms flowing to rogue governments (e.g Syria, etc.), who would use these against their own people, and to terrorists, etc.
