Big Wednesday celebrates surfing as much as the most dedicated kid who ever waxed a board. And its more: a fascinating 1962-1974 chronicle of friendships and lifestyles in transition.
John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn) directs and co-scripts, investing Big Wednesday with his own passion for the ultimate ride and a truthful feel for those turbulent times.
Stars Jan-Micheal Vincent and William Katt are accomplished surfers; co-lead Gary Busey (Point Break) learned for the role. And the sensational cinematography drops you inside some awesome barrels. Worth seeing again and again.

It isn't just a "surf movie"... it's a wonderful elegy about friendship and youth. Anyway the surf scenes are very beautiful.

    Great movie.

This brilliant time piece flew 6 miles over the moron public's head. It tanked at the box office but it remains as the best "Coming Of Age" film that I've ever seen.

This a good movie that did not recieve the airplay (both theatres and TV) it deserved. The fight scene, the scene where Jan Michael Vincent is running down the street and also the scenes where they parked their car under the bridge in Tijuana MX were actually filmed on the southside of El Paso TX.

Great surf movie. I saw it on Showtime (believe it or not) in the late 70's.

Lee Purcell was always freaking hot!

I guess you could say this movie is a favorite of mine..and yet, I've never seen it. I'm acquainted with the story because I read the book in high school numerous times. It was a favorite of mine and I still have that copy. Growing up in the Mid-west, I never had the chance to ride a wave until I was in my mid thirties in Florida. Some surfers suggested boogie boarding and taught me the basics. I finally experienced the sensation and enjoyed it.
