@silvereagle2061 I really doubt that the pvt. sector wants any space flight wholesale Yea if the taxpayer pays for it they would. The pvt. sector already profits from the space program without being responsible for the expensive stuff. There would already be routine pvt. sector space flight if the pvt. sector wanted it The less the gvmnt. & pvt. sector are in cahoots the better off the little guys will be I'm waiting for the day amateur rocketeers & radio ops put a comm sat in orbit tho

All eras come to an end. While the shuttle has unique capabilities in proved to expensive to use it for routine space operations. An aging vehicle fleet & problems discovered with it, sorta signaled it's time to move to another era. Pining for the shuttle program is like pining for the time the Ford Model T era.

@Dgl44 The Orion Project was to take men back to the Moon. Priorities have since changed thanks to our current administration. Still in the works Orion is planed for a trip to an asteroid or Mars. Not expecting neither to happen for another 10 years if that. Till then we're counting on Soyuz to take men and women to and from the ISS.

@silvereagle2061 What will NASA do then? Only launch comm and TV satelites and Mars/Moon exploring vehicles and thats it?
-
@Dgl44 You got it right and instead turning it over to the private sector
-
So if I got it right, NASA is basically terminating the whole manned space flight program?
-
Why this is the last launch ????

When the Shuttle lands I hope to see the whole Shuttle program crew introduce their selves and be like "and we just lost our jobs"
