Been studying anatomy a lot lately, but I've been having a lot of trouble with the forearm... Been looking at tons of different sources trying to figure out how it all fits together, and I think I finally have a somewhat okay, although not perfect, understanding... And so I thought it might be good to share whatever small knowledge I may have gained with everyone incase there's someone like me out there who's really struggling to learn anatomy. This isn't an entertainment video or really for beginners. I would suggest beginners learn how to make the arm out of cylinders and stuff and get the basic proportions down. I still probably messed some stuff up, but hopefully not too much. Of course, this is only one view, and I didn't draw all the movements etc, but really that would be an hour long video... Not much time right now, but maybe in a couple months I'll be able to handle something like that.
Anyway, I'm not really liking my drawing... I think the proportions are quite badly done. Gonna try to do better next time. I think the muscles are generally in the right place though. if they're not, let me know cuz I'm still learning.

The books I've been using for anatomy are:
Gottfried Bammes - Der nackte Mensch
George Bridgman - Complete Guide to Drawing From Life
Andrew Loomis - Figure Drawing for All it's Worth
Burne Hogarth - Dynamic Anatomy
Famous Artists Course

All the books are good in their own way. I really like the book by Bammes, but unfortunately it's only in German... Still, good images in there.

Used SketchBookPro to draw in this time. I like to use it because of the interface. Real easy to use with a tablet. I don't think it's superior to Photoshop in what it can do, but it's just very user friendly and easy. Don't have to worry about adjusting brush settings etc...

Tools:
Wacom Intuos3 12x9
Autodesk SketchBookPro 2009
Camtasia Studio
FL Studio 9

Music: All the music was crap I composed. Sorry if it sucks, lol. Hopefully I'll get better if I keep at it. If it's too bad, there's always the mute button. ;)

  • Nice je me demandais toujours pourquoi mon bras tourne sur lui même mais mon coude ne bouge pas met la j'ai compris comment ca marchait ;p

  • Wow....really well illustrated....thanks!

  • Really useful stuff, thanks.

  • Really helpful video, thanks for making it. I did wonder whether you'd got the jobs of the pronator and supinator the wrong way round as doesn't the pronator pull the hand round so that it is palm DOWN and the supinator pull it round so that it is palm UP? (I'm not sure but that would make more sense to me and I had a very quick look on some websites)

  • great video. It taught me how my muscles work, what theyre called and which ones to tell my physiotherapist hurt. I have fibromyalgia, and sadly they ALL hurt. but its helped me to understand why my scapula, chest wall even my armpit hurts with this fibromyalgia. Thanks for posting. I dont care about the distance between this muscle and that one, I needed to understand the anatomy of my arms.

  • Nice video, very useful. Thanks

  • The distance between the radius and the ulna should only be appreciable on the distal half.

  • wow great video

  • Wow you did a really good job on making this video. I hope that you will make more. It is helpful the way you showed arm and forarm. Please continue to make more videos.
