This video explains how to repair points on pretty much any motor. It goes into more detail about setting them on a Z50R but the cleaning process is universal for all points

  • heyyy man ive gota 100 pit bike demon x and it makes a little knocking noise from the flywheel could that mean i need to reset my points thanks make more cool vids

    regards jack

  • I doubt it. I've never seen a Honda copy use points, they all copy the newer design with CDI. Knocking is probably something worse.

  • hey alex i have a 1987 honda xl600r and ive been trying to find a new flywheel because the person who had it before me didnt put it in right so its kinda messed up, anyway ive been looking for a new one but all the oem flywheels are out of stock. • I don't know of any site that would specifically sell XL600 parts or things like that. All I can say is keep an eye out on eBay.

  • @notdansuper Yeah I seen i was getting spark but a couple other factors shown me more, so I'm just going to rebuild it. Watching more of his video's has got me on the war path to doing an 88cc or a 108cc build.

  • Thanks for the vid Alex... good job!

Is this a Z50R motor? You could have a bad condenser. You could also try going up to .020, or even down to .010 on your gap and see if that helps. These are solid mount stators, so the only timing you can do is through the points gap itself. Also, new plug? Good gas? No air leaks from the carb to the intake? All things that need to be checked.

You don't need a battery as long as the coil is grounded to the motor. Simply do as he did... where the coil bolts to the frame, run a wire from there to a ground point on the motor. This creates a closed circuit. To cut the engine, pull the wire from the engine, or just pull off the plug boot. This can be done with ANY engine that's not fuel-injected.

  • Hi alex! i desperatly need some help..i have the flyweel at the F and make sure my points are closed..until the T mark they open and my bike starts ok..but i cant Rev it up it shokes and goes of..i have tried 2 carbs and its the same..what can this be??the point are new!!

  • you hooked it up on the bench to run without the battery ? could you do a step by step vid for that plz ?

  • i had a atc70 with this motor and the woodruf key would always strip (shear). why does this happen and how do you fix it?

  • is the felt pad for points a must? i cant get it off old points for new points...so is it a big deal?

  • this help me out alot....i recently replaced the stators and battery and points because it came with stator kit, but i was unsure how to set points so searched it and found ur vid and now im gonna try it out.... it runs but backfires alot and will eventually die out and wont start back up and not to mention the engine is really tired and it smokes outt the flyweel outer cover and the engine vibrates prob from worn rings or piston

  • I could not set my points today on my 1970 Honda ST70. I was sooooooo pissed. I watched you and I was riding in 1/2 hour. Thanks Man. I was about to get my hammer out!
