  • @guchikura You are right. Martial arts is taught, usually, in a traditional way, showing you the traditional techniques of it's style. It is up to you to personalize your fighting style. Bruce Lee said it best:

Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.

  • Martial arts can't turn you in to a fighter. All it can do is train you in techniques you can use to defend yourself more effectively in a certain situation. My instructor was always very adamant that my actions be second nature and not a well thought out plan of attack. After all, in a life and death situation you do not have time to decide what the best plan of defense will be. Your body should know what to do instinctively. This is why kata is so important- muscle memory.

  • @scarred10 You are assuming that every Judo dojo teaches only tournament Judo. This is not true. We even train topless on occasions so that we don't become dependent on clinching. In fact, we also train in striking techniques. At it's inception Judo was not a sport and, in fact, originated from jiu-jitsu that was used on the ancient battlefields of Japan to pacify armored samurai.

  • @wrathVchild if you can clinch on an untrained grappler, you will throw them ,no doubt. However ,it will need to be closer than a judo clinch and get there without getting plastered with a punch, something judoka never practise. The way it was done in old school gracie jujitsu is the most effective way to clinch on a non grappler.

  • @AHoboHuggingLlama nearly all the throws are the same

  • @AHoboHuggingLlama They did Jiu-Jitsu which contains most of the throws used in Judo. They would have used Judo throws in battle, but at that time they would have done Jiu Jitsu throws.

  • @killerclown789 Are you retarded? Samurais did NOT do Judo, Judo was invented in 1882 by Jigoro Kano and Judo means "the gentle way".

  • @danesrawesome Judu is streamlined Jiu-Jitsu. They would have done a lot of throws from Judo, but yes, you are correct.

  • @killerclown789 Samurais did Jiu-Jitsu..

  • Samurai did Judo.
