this classic cold war relic can still deliver that instantly recognizable champ tone.these things are great for reletivly low volume tube recording or close neighbors.

the guitar is an early ibanez jem with a dimarzio X2N in the ass end. no outboard drive units or distortion. just a patch cord and pure fender tone.the audio was recorded with the onboard mics on a sony fx7 about 15 feet away.

  • I need to but in here.... this little amp just played its little class a hart out. Hey you plug this amp into 2 X12 or 4X12 cab and It would sound better.

  • it sure did. the poor thing was sweating bullets.

    it still delivered.

  • Champs are 6W!

  • its a game show."how many watts". this champ is a 1971 witch puts it in the 5 watt category. in 1972 fender increased power output to 6 watts.

  • thats hot!...but couldnt you have used a les paul or a fender strat rather than something with steroids output

  • too funny. x2n's certainly can crush anything in there way!

  • Wow buy some new tubes, thats not the way they are suppose to sound! I own one

  • Okay, now account for you being an asshole. That *was* where I was going with that. I wasn't aware English was not your first language, people seem not to bother with proper English even if they can use it correctly, so it's hard to tell. Nevertheless, I see no reason to critique the man's playing or skill when all he's doing is demonstrating the sound of an amp, especially considering this *exactly* how one ought to demo an amp. I think you were being the smart ass in the first place.

  • Despite everyone whining, I like the sound.

  • It seems like the harder you push it the 71 champ the more harsh it sounded. Not one of the better sounding champs. I would have the speaker checked by a pro.

  • How much could one of these be sold for?

  • Man, my Roland Cube sounds way better than this. This tone is fugly!

  • its funny becuase my fender champ (the same amp) cant that much treble.

  • I have one of these and it is awesome with a TS-9 in front of it. Turn the bass all the way up and it compresses very nicely.

  • @bobs146

any amp you can gig with, close mic it homey

  • would this be able to do any small gigging or no.... im guessing no

  • You should try the amp with some vintage pickups. It sounds as if you trying to kill the amp.

  • maybe it's his pickups and he digs that sound. too distorted for me tho.
