English Only Hotel: No Mas Español - Owner picketed for demanding English only from Employees

An English-only motel is being boycotted by: freedom challenged illegal aliens, Americans of Latin dissent, and other people of this species. They are upset that the man who owns the hotel, Larry Whitten, demands that the people he employs talk only English in front of him. I'm not really sure just what their beef is with that, but I for one find nothing wrong with it.

Since when is an employer not allowed to tell his employees how to dress, how to groom, and what language to speak? Oh, I forgot, we now live in the Socialist States of America where employers are not allowed to instruct their employees on how to conduct themselves while on the job, where employers are tied down with idiotic laws and rules that trample on freedom. I guess that some day it will be against the law to make your employees work. This country is losing what it had that made it the most competitive economy in the word; our government is tying our hands behind our backs.

Now while I do agree that this man was wrong in trying to get his employees to use different names, I believe that he was well within his right to force them to speak English in his presence, for after all, he is the boss; he is the one who signs their paychecks. If this guy is financially set for life, then what he should do is to disband the business and demolish all of the hotels, and then tell his employees to take a hike. That would teach them. I would especially like to do that if they were trying to unionize. I would demolish the hotels and then tell then to unionize that pile of rubble.

Like I stated above, the name thing was wrong. In fact just today I hired a roofer whose name is Antonio. A friend of mine in his presence said that the name was just like Tony in English. Later in the day when the roofer Antonio called me and left me a message on my phone, he said that "this is Tony", and I wondered why he did that, because when he first told me his name he said that it was Antonio. Anyway, when I talk to him I call him Antonio because that is the name that his Mom and Dad gave him, and what kind of a person would I be if I in any way pressured him to change his name. (yes he was licensed, no I don't know if he is legal, I have no way of knowing. That is why we have a federal government, to keep the undesirables out)

I have worked for other people most of my life, and I have never sought protection from them ever. I have always considered myself a one-man-union. If I don't like my working conditions, my pay, the way I am spoken to etc, I quit. What is so hard about that? People need to stop being a bunch of teat sucking babies and grow up. Life is not easy! No one said that it would be! So grow the Hell up, stop whining, and get to work making your life better! And stop relying on the government to take care of your candy asses!!

Hotel Owner Faces Backlash Firing Hispanic Workers

The tough-talking former Marine immediately laid down some new rules. Among them, he forbade the Hispanic workers at the run-down, Southwestern adobe-style hotel from speaking Spanish in his presence (he thought they'd be talking about him), and ordered some to Anglicize their names.
No more Martin (Mahr-TEEN). It was plain-old Martin. No more Marcos. Now it would be Mark.
Whitten's management style had worked for him as he's turned around other distressed hotels he bought in recent years across the country.
The 63-year-old Texan, however, wasn't prepared for what followed.
His rules and his firing of several Hispanic employees angered his employees and many in this liberal enclave of 5,000 residents at the base of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, where the most alternative of lifestyles can find a home and where Spanish language, culture and traditions have a long and revered history.
Former workers, their relatives and some town residents picketed across the street from the hotel.
"I do feel he's a racist, but he's a racist out of ignorance. He doesn't know that what he's doing is wrong," says protester Juanito Burns Jr., who identified himself as prime minister of an activist group called Los Brown Berets de Nuevo Mexico.
After he arrived, Whitten met with the employees. He says he immediately noticed that they were hostile to his management style and worried they might start talking about him in Spanish.
"Because of that, I asked the people in my presence to speak only English because I do not understand Spanish," Whitten says. "I've been working 24 years in Texas and we have a lot of Spanish people there. I've never had to ask anyone to speak only English in front of me because I've never had a reason to."
Some employees were fired, Whitten says, because they were hostile and insubordinate. He says they called him "a white (N-word)."

Your question is too vague and incomplete. It proposes the quantification of a hypthetical, and it does not allow for the distinction between broken-english and no-english capacities.
Perhaps I should refer you back to one of your own comments which stipulates that when "english is not an official government's language it becomes an unofficial defacto language."
Surely this same sociological-norm would & should apply to the government's military as well !

My point is that non-english speaking aliens should not be allowed to serve in the military and all immigrants should learn english before green cards are given. No more catering to non-english speaking hispanics. English should also become dejure in the US .
