New Zealand Tibetans Protest at Chinese Consulate

ANCHOR:
More than 100 protestors holding banners and Tibetan flags have demanded an end the violent crackdown in Tibet outside the Chinese Consulate.

STORY:
International media and the UN are stilled barred from entering Tibet, and in New Zealand tensions are running high.

The New Zealand Government is hoping to become the first developed nation to secure a free trade agreement with China, within the next month. Green Party MP Keith Locke says it is wrong to sign the agreement while the situation in Tibet has not been resolved.

[Keith Locke, Green Party MP]:
"Stop trampling on the Tibetan people, stop trampling on the rights of the Chinese people."

Other groups are deeply concerned by the role the communist party plays in the persecution of the Tibetan, Sudanese, Burmese and Chinese people.

While the human rights groups stood united, Chinese students said the protesters were lying and accused them of being paid to be there, much to the bemusement of the crowd.
