You can also just rub some food coloring on it to brown it... it's quicker, easier, and there's less cleanup.

when i cook it, it looks inconsistent meaning big and tiny pieces what am i doing wrong?

@Ecompass4 nop it is as simple as that, take the meat slap it on the pan, cook till it fully cooked, meaning no pink, and finished.

@loungelizard5000 I guess that trick works best for other types of meat, like hamburgers, loins, chops, steaks.. but if u mash the beef and spread it on the tray or pan evenly, it should get cooked nice and brown at high heat. U then dont have to stay and guard your food all the time for getting burned

If u brown it too much, it gets dry and not tasty. it should be juicy, but not too watery. its not a sauce u are making

"When the ground beef is browning it should be nice and brown". Really? My ground beef turns green after its done browning, I think you did something wrong.
According to the Hamburger Helper box, apparently you can brown ground beef in the microwave.

Can you brown it in the oven? Maybe that's a stupid question, but it just seems easier, LOL.
