An AutoDrill customer recently needed to drill over-sized holes on a close center to center pattern. Because the spacing was below the minimum spacing for ER16M spindles (0.867" or 22mm), we were forced to use ER11 spindles.

The customer's hole process is larger than the 7mm maximum size for ER11 so the customer will use reduced shank tooling. However, the typical ER11 spindle set-up is not robust enough for the process.

Because of this, AutoDrill designed a heavy duty head with gearing similar to ER25 style construction but with the spacing of the ER11 pattern. This video shows not only the heavy duty head, but also the machine that spins and strokes it.
