We've been working on this project for about 3 weeks. I've put in about 40+ hours in this model. Kind of slacking off compared to my previous studios.

The columns are related to the geometrical relationships of music (one of apollos attributes) and remind me of art deco which is fitting due to its relation to jazz music. The platforms of the bridge, path below and stairs down to the seating area are designed to create glimpses of the stage before arival, which relates to apollo's other main attribute: prophecy. Most horizontal elements are thin to contrast with the epic bulk that is displayed by the columns. The two largest columns are 17X20 at the base and 4 x 7 at the top and ranging in hieght from 140ft to 215ft above the lowest point in the site. The hieght variance follows the mountains the to relate to the site (my last model was a flat bridge. The shape of the columns taper towards the theater to add a sense of direction to the music. Different columns are used throught the site but most are tapered to mimick the large column to add to the sense of forshadowment. Arched supports minimize the volume of the horizontal planes and add additional architectural vocabulary, relates different locations and sizes of elements, and create a modernistic roman arch (even thou Apollo was greek).

  • Great video! I thik it's a shame that you didn't focus on the large building more than you did, though - like an outside view of it, perhaps?

But wow, it's amazing that you made that yourself!

  • I really liked the view once you reached your eventual destination at that amphitheater. Very cool.
