Here's Pity the Child

----------------------------------
I am currently working on creating English subtitles for the Chess Pa Svenska DVD. This is just a rough test to give an idea of what the finished product will be like. The word choice, formating, etc, are all subject to change and revision.

If you care to help with the translation, especially of the spoken dialog, please post here, or email me at chesstranslation@gmail.com

Note on translation of the lyrics: Whenever possible, I will be using Tim Rice's original lyrics unless they are explicitly incongruous with the action on stage or the intent of the Swedish version. As many of the songs are as direct a translation of Rice words as are possible when translating lyrics from Swedish to English, I think it makes more sense to use the original English lyrics rather than lyrics that have been translated from English into Swedish and then back to English.

For those who want a more literal (and yet less lyrical) translation, I will also create a second subtitle track with a more literal translation of the Swedish lyrics.

  • Anders is an actor in Swedens most finest and prestigious theatre

"Dramaten". When you do musicals on stage you have to "overact" so the audience can see your facial expressions. Look at opera as well.

  • my thoughts after seeing Chess like 15 times: yes, Anders comes across as a bit overacting. But - sitting in the theatre it worked. Seeing it on the DVD I felt a bit "oh, stop doing that with your eyebrows and with your head", but I was there during one of the tapings and at that time I bought it. There is a difference seeing it live and seeing it on a dvd, and I have to say that Anders did a great job.

I´ll put my behind on the line here. I really can be wrong, which I on´t like :-).

No and yes, the actual song from the record and the stage show in London is there only brief in music not sung.

(I can´t find my DVD ) but they just let the music play while rearrangening the scen.

Just a funny thing about this song: Tim Rice got the comment you really nailed that lyrics!

And I had to say it was Björn all the way.

  • Is the Bangkok/one night in Bangkok in the swedish version also? I have yet not found it...
