蟑螂真面目 American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana)

Adults are up to 53mm long. Their colour is usually reddish brown except for a pale brown to yellowish band around edge of head shield. Both male and female have wings and are moderately good fliers. The egg capsule is dark reddish to blackish brown and is about 10mm long.
After the egg capsule is formed it is dropped or glued with a mouth secretion to a suitable surface, usually in a crack or crevice of high relative humidity near a food source. On average the capsule contains 14-16 eggs. Development time is greatly influenced by the temperature, varying from 5 to 26 months, averaging 20 months under normal conditions. Adult females live about 14 months and adult males about 6 months.

If you have roaches, it's better to have the American variety. They set up their nesting outside. The only reason they come inside is for food and/or water, then they get stuck inside and can't get back out, but they can survive as long as they have water every day. They can go weeks without food. German cockroaches (the smaller ones) lay thousands of eggs in your home and it's nearly impossible to get rid of them. A quick call to a bug man will take care of the American ones.
