This clip is from "An Evening with Alvin Ailey," which is out of print. Please check their website for other DVDs or buy a ticket for a live performance.

The principal dancer in this clip is Elizabeth Roxas, absolutely divine!

More info is available at the Ailey website:

This is an excerpt from "Divining," the first ballet choreographed by Judith Jamison for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1984, The role of the diviner was written with Donna Wood in mind.

The African-inspired percussion score, mostly drums, is by Kimati Dinizulu and Monti Ellison

  • My Auntie is Elizabeth♥ :)

  • @Mzgetlite

Aren't you lucky! She is a wonderful dancer, Never get tired of watching her perform.

  • Can some one please tell me what is the intent behind this dance I am a bit confused and all over the place.

  • Divining is a ballet in 3 parts. What is uploaded here is not the complete ballet. I think it's amodern take on traditional African dance and ritual, set to the music of Kimati Dinizulu and Monti Ellison.
