  • Do they have cab rides at cass?

  • @Mr8704 they dooffer cabries but they dont havetickets for them you havt to ask the engineer personily and he deicides if he wants to or not

  • Why don't they blow it like the usual grade crossing? Meaning why don't they blow 2 longs a short, and a very long?

I'm just curious, I think it's cool that they blow their whistles the way they do, but I'm mostly used to the 2 longs, 1 short, and 1 very long.

  • i never asked to blow the whistle at a crossing this was just somewhere between bald knob and whittaker

  • @Chris9017 ...there is only one crossing at cass, the way they blow the whistle is just for show. But you got to admit, it sounds good.

  • Dude you are a natural, or you had some great teachers! I spent many a day in the cab of Southern Railroad 4501 doing that very thing. Enjoy every second of it, because before you know it they will be gone.

  • @trainmaster844 That makes sense. Honestly, I prefer the normal 2 longs, 1 short, and one extremely long, but I enjoy feathering the whistle and making sure the whistle valve doesn't close until my last blast.

  • @Chris9017 - Engineers at Cass have different ways of "quilling" the whistle... they're kind of like musical conductors with their whistles - AND I LOVE IT!

  • @Chris9017 ok heres something to know, each engineer has their own "whistle Signiture". Each engineer blows the whistle their own way so some can be loud and some can be bad.... so that is his "whistle signiture" and i think its nice, mine is ok too

  • Old #4 has always been my favorite whistle on the Cass engines, and I'm

talkin' away back from the 1950's when Clyde Galford was runnin' her.

We knew Cass when it was just a muddy little logging town. Thank God

for Cecil Underwood! If not for him Cass would have been scrapped, and

think what priceless history would have been lost.

  • ive known danny and his family since i was a baby. every time i ride the spruce or bald knob trian (since thats the only run danny is on and i only ride with danny) he leaves me the whistle rope as soon as we pass the shops and i dont give it back to him til im out of the cab at the end of the day. it definitely is a ride of a lifetime

  • i wouldnt say im exactly fond with cass locomotives but the whistles are amazing!

  • Notice the "I didnt do it" written on mfptb425's shirt.
