This Quick Glance is part of our newest Playlist: Bite-sized KBB. We'll feature rough cuts of first drives and press events to tide you over until we produce a full video.

Nissan Leaf electric vehicle. Kbb.com's Jack R. Nerad had the opportunity to see the new Nissan Leaf in Japan recently and offers his take: "Nissan has taken some hits for its approach to hybrid vehicles, which industry pundits have labeled laggardly, but now the company is hoping to leapfrog all others to the top of the environmentally friendly tree with the all-electric vehicle it calls the LEAF. Technological leaps found in the LEAF include an advanced Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery pack (Nissan has been researching Li-ion batteries since 1992) and a sophisticated car-driver interface that includes special efforts like emailing your PDA when your car has reached a full charge. Another leap, one of faith, is that a large enough number of consumers in the United States, Japan and other countries will be comfortable enough with a car that offers a range of just 100 miles to buy one." • These are meant to be rough edits to offer a peek at the car until we have a longer, completely produced version to upload.

  • these are plain boring with no sound. I agree, I would rather read my Car and Driver Magizine. If this is what kbb videos are going to be I will unsubcribe

  • We'll add sound next time. Thank you for the feedback. We'll be adding the full length video soon, and I assure you that it will have sound. Since this was a rough cut, we did not post sound.

  • IT A RIPPOFF FRENCH ZIPPERHEAD CO AND SEE THERE RECALL FRAUD

AND COVER UP IN VIDEOS ( nissangate ) on youtube

  • cadilac converj ESTIMATED PRICE = MORE THEN 50k....HOPE U CAN AFFORD IT....LESS RANGE TOO

  • might wana check on that again.

leaf = 100 m range (estimated), 90 mph (speed), 25K(estimated price), standard 4 door (and seats) sedan

    now

Chevy volt= 35-50K(estimate) smaller range and its chevy (which means GM, gm is definatelly a company you can count on HINT*SARCASTIC*

NOW DECIDE WHICH U WOULD RATHER GET.....

  • @quacker6637 actually if fits 5 ppl genius and u look like a crap smartcar

  • What does the grey box at 0:24 do?

  • "Chevy Volt. The battery in that thing is HUGE!!! "

That is because it is a high power (electrical flow) battery, this is needed so that the on board gas generator can recharge the battery. The LEAF uses a high energy (electrical density) battery for longer range and better over all performance.

  • Furthermore GM went ahead building the Volt with tax payer money, there is nothing noble or admirable about that.

You can seat only 4 adults on the Volt, while you can seat 5 on the LEAF, another point you completely missed. The LEAF is the future, while the Volt is the product of a company that refuses to let go all the while trying to adapt to a new era in the automotive industry.

  • I admire your support for American built cars, but if I were you I would support an American car builder like Tesla or even Ford, but not GM, the Volt has a onboard gas generator so that car will require service and parts. Bob Lutz is on record on another youtube video admitting the gas generator is a revenue opportunity for dealers. See electric cars have only one moving part in their drive-train and that is a problem for your beloved GM.

  • still got more... on and on and on about how great gm is but i won't hell i don't even know why i sarted this fight but im a gm fan to the core GM GM GM

  • let me continue...also there are the new equinox, there is many new concept that are coming soon, including the cadilac converj which is going to be on the volt body, also gm is expanding their mpv's whith the chevorlet orlando. It's a mini looking van. but has four doors. Also gm has great cars out now including the equiox, cadilac srx, gmc terrian, buick enclave, chevy traverse, chevy malibu, chevy malibu hybrid, the new aveo is much improved over last years model. I could go on and on and...
