@1ucasvb Oh yes, now I hear it - the cello and double bass are an octave apart. I should have noticed this! Sorry.
It's probably the too-exact sync between the unison voices that I find confusing. Even the vibrato seems to be in sync, is it actually?
And - as I said, it does sound good with strings, at any rate I'm sure it would sound really quite good with actual strings...

Obviously I'm being pedantic, but honestly: describing a piece with only two voices as "for string quartet" is a little ridiculous... even if the sound samples are declared as "string quartet", this does not mean everything that's played with this sound will be string quartet. To achieve this with just two voices, you would need to have two seperately-recorded violins play one voice, and one viola and one cello play the other.
The piece does actually sound quite nice as a string duet, though!

@leftaroundabout But there are four instruments: a contrabass, a viola and two cellos. They're just playing in unison and in pairs (contrabass+cello and viola+cello) and each instrument with different pan.
There are only two different parts, I know. It's not much, I just wanted to see how it sounded with strings;
