@lewisner i'm sure you will agree there is nothing worse tham going to a city and seeing unhappy angry negative people everywhere, why would anyone want to come back?
-
@lewisner No i don't think it's ugly... depressing or a mess... i think its nice... see what i mean about negative.. assuming i think the same way as you... the problem with this city is not the place but the attitude of it's residence try taking some pride in your city even if you don't agree with some things maybe if outsiders see positive hard working people in Sunderland then they will invest in the place..
-
@acemcloude BTW assuming it is funded from the transport budget, I assume you would agree that Sunderland station is an ugly depressing mess? Lets say you demolished it right down to foundations, then rebuilt it into something like it was in the 1960's with an overall roof and 4 platforms? I guess you would have plenty left out of the £90 million. Wouldn't that be a better use of the money?
-
@acemcloude Negative realism is still realism. This bridge will not not be the answer to Sunderlands problems.
-
@lewisner You and certain other peoples realism is negetive, it's great for the city and is not coming out of the councils budget it's coming out of the governments transport budget... so if it was not sunderlands bridge it would be some other city in the uk....
-
@acemcloude If realism is negative then so be it. The town centre of Sunderland is a total mess and I think £90 million invested in it would produce a better return than a bridge which would merely serve to bolster the egos of the city council.

@lewisner yes but stll negetive
An £82.5m bid towards Sunderland City Council's New Wear Crossing project has been backed by the Department for Transport (DfT).
In an announcement today - Wednesday 14 December - the department confirmed it would contribute funding.
The crossing project is designed to help support further city regeneration and improve access for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians between the A19 and central Sunderland.
